Over the past few months exporters to the US have utilised almost all the US customs warehouse space to take a pause to make decisions regarding the implementation of the new US tariff. The increased tariffs, increased border scrutiny, and ever-increasing importation required for the upcoming Christmas season have created the perfect storm to ruin the best laid plans. Whilst understandable that retailers rely on customs warehouses to ship goods in the most cost-efficient way but assist cash flow to delay clearance and customs duties until needed, there is a predicted shortage of customs warehouse space. This means that some retailers may not be able to ship as they always have or will need to provision for earlier payment of customs duties and taxes.
