As the current steel safeguarding measures come to an end at the end of June 2026, the UK Government are proposing a monumental decrease to the current quota levels whilst imposing punitive measures by way of “across the board” increases to the “bound” duty rates to 50%.
Talking to numerous clients, it is very apparent that these measures could decimate the UK steel industry. Users of steel “downstream” have received little if any consultation and with the Secretary of State ignoring advice from Trade Remedies, it would appear that tariff increases on the 1st of July 2026 will have a disastrous impact in the steel sector and beyond.
If this is of concern to you and would like to join the growing number of companies lobbying the Government, then please get in touch, we can help.
